Cabal | Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight

Posted: 21 September 2021 by Douglas Bowden-Smith

Sunday witnessed the final day of this year’s Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight, a celebration of Scotland’s continued global fame of being a landscape of fine-food producers and expertly crafted drinks. As a Scottish based business headquartered in Edinburgh that selects, designs and co-creates, through consumer insight, luxury, award-winning expressions. We are delighted to stand amongst the many shoulders of Scotland’s dynamic, innovative and proud Food & Drink producers.

As a company, we are active supporters of Scottish based businesses and are fortunate to work with some of Scotland’s most respected Food & Drink specialists. We unapologetically celebrate this.

For example, during the creation of our first expression, Cabal No.1513, we sourced our handcrafted Pedro Ximénez casks from the historic, Speyside Cooperage. One of the very last remaining UK based working cooperages where the ancient art of coopering is practised through local employment and the use of traditional methods and tools. Each year, Speyside Cooperage produces and repairs nearly 150,000 oak casks, many selected by surrounding local distilleries and others throughout Scotland and the rest of the world. For the racking, storage and finishing of our rum, we sought the trusted and capable expertise of Caley Casks, situated within the same valley as Speyside Cooperage, and who are equally obsessed with the provenance of the spirits they keep watch over.

Only once our team of experts have sampled our expressions for themselves and are confident in the spirit’s character, do we then send our selected expression to our long-established bottling and handling company, QASCopak, Fife. The labels which feature on every bottle of our globally acclaimed, Cabal No.1513, are produced by the food and beverage consultants, MMC Label, in Clydebank and we work closely with the Edinburgh branch of our bottling producers, Bruni Erben.

Out with our supply chain, we actively partner with a diverse network of fellow Food & Drink producers across Scotland through being members of the respected, Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce. We are also proud sponsors of HIT (Hospitality Industry Trust) Scotland, a unique charity for the hospitality industry. Internally, driven by our Cabal & Co partnerships, to date, we have partnered with Scottish artisan producers such as; Unorthodox Roasters, Kinross, Donald Russell Butchers, Inverurie and Coco Chocolatier, South Queensferry.

Our vision is simple, to collectively create the most consumer conscious rum brand. We are architects, co-designers and creators of consumer validated, naturally finished statement rums with expressive, striking and unforgettable characters. In addition to our Scottish supply chain, our rums are sourced from renowned distilleries with a heritage bridging continents through rum’s truth, taste and possibilities and although by no means exclusive, our signature statement rums are passionately validated by members of the Scottish public through our numerous consumer focus groups.

As you can no doubt tell, we are proud to be part of Scotland’s Food & Drink sector.
